a cleaner 1300 calorie day!

Once again, I forgot some pictures...  but I remembered to photograph lunch and afterwards.  So bear with me for the morning.  :-)

Here is a 1300 calorie day in which I focused on cutting way back on processed foods and ate a lot more of a "clean" diet.

Breakfast:  banana, overnight oats (made with 1/2 cup oats and 1/2 cup almond milk)

Morning snacks:  grapes, almonds

Lunch was savory oats!  I made oatmeal (with water) and mixed in some beans, tomatoes, spinach, shredded carrots, and EVOO.  I was skeptical about savory oats at first, but it has become one of my favorite whole grains!

My afternoon snack was a Fuji apple!  My favorite kind of apple... YUM.

Dinner was a bunch of broccoli mixed with some rice and beans.  I swear there were more beans and was more rice than appears in this picture!  The broccoli dwarfed them.  Oh yeah, there was a teaspoon of EVOO mixed in with this, too.

obligatory self-portrait...  I thought that today was a great hair day for me, so I had to sneak this picture in!

and finally, I ate the rest of this vegan chocolate bar...  If you are vegan and miss the taste of milk chocolate, I cannot recommend this bar more.  It tastes just like milk chocolate to me!  Even Stacey says that it tastes like a Hershey's bar!

I must admit that I felt WAY less deprived today than I did on last week's 1300 calorie day.  I am pretty sure it's because (until the chocolate bar) I focused entirely on more whole foods than last week.

Total calories: 1302

Tomorrow, back to exercise, which means it's a higher calorie day!

This day looks fabulous to me! I just might have to copy it it! I have never heard of savory oats. Is it regular oatmeal? Can I use the quick cooking kind? Thanks!!

Isn't it great when we can eat, lose weight AND not feel deprived! Awesome!!!

@Megan- Thanks! It was a fun experiment, but I'm back at my usual mix of clean/unclean foods today, LOL

@Jill- Savory oats just means oatmeal made in a way that's not tradtional, or not sweet. I just used old-fashioned oatmeal by Quaker. :-)

That looks like a wonderful day of food. I need to focus on more clean foods. I *know* it makes me feel better and still I'm not so great at following through.....I have been resistant to savory oats but I have SO MUCH oatmeal I really ought to try it...

I think you are absolutely right that you need to focus on eating cleaner when you only have 1300 calories to spend. I have to focus on that A LOT, since I generally try to stick to 1300-1400 calories a day. Terrific job on sticking to your calorie goal!

Oh and by the way, that banana/ sandwich thin dessert looks AMAZING. I'm almost mad at you for sharing it. Almost... ;)

@ravegan- Why not try aiming for one "clean" day a week? That's my goal for now, on my DOR/1300 calorie day, I will be aiming to eat mostly whole foods, but the rest of the week, I'm going to keep to my healthy-ish status, choose healthy foods most of the time, but still enjoying some treats!

@Katie- It really did help me out! Last week's 1300 calorie day filled with luna bars and craisins just plain sucked. LOL at my dessert! It can't be too many WW Points, though. On Momentum, wouldn't it be 6 or so?

@Megan- Thanks for reading! I'm glad that my blog has inspired you. I need to re-read TKD, it's been on my to-do list for a long time now...

You do such a great job at eating whole foods. I wish I could be as good as you.

Glad to hear you are finding what works for you.

I'm still on my first week of MFP and so far the scale says I'm up even though I've stayed totally OP with this MFP and worked my butt off at the gym. What gives! I don't but I'm sticking with it because eventually it has to go in my favor.

@Amanda- Hang in there! Are you eating your exercise calories? I always eat mine, and have been losing about a pound a week since joining MFP. Also- I don't always eat this "clean"! This was just to see if eating more whole foods would help make my low-calorie days easier, and IT TOTALLY DID. I'm back to chips and hummus today, haha

Looks much better than last week's attempt at a 1310 day. Good job!

Your day looks great and thanks for reminding me about overnight oats. I love those with almond or vanilla soy milk. I will try savory oats soon and I need to try that chocolate. Your day sounds good and MFP is great!

@Cyn- THANKS!!! The chocolate bar is to die for, especially if you are craving milk chocolate. The only warning: HALF of it is 243 calories, so it's not exactly a "diet" food, but that's probably why it tastes so good. ;-)

@Marie- Thanks for your support, as always! :-) I love how many different ways we are friends on the internet, LOL.

@Rae- Thanks! I forget about overnight oats, too, and when I remember and try them again, it's always SO GOOD. Especially on hot mornings, why do I keep eating hot cereal? Yeah, MFP rules.

Nice Leah! That's exactly what I found- and so now that I stick with eating that way all the time, I feel more satisfied on less food. Makes everything easy.

Kudos to you for giving it a try!

@Kate- Thanks for noticing. :-) It definately was more satisfying, but I'm not willing to eat like this every day YET. I'm still loving "everything in moderation" on most days.
