Learning to love exercise as a calorie-counter

When I first started using My Fitness Pal, I loved that I was encouraged to eat my earned exercise calories!

However, two bad(ish) things have come out of this:

1) On my days of rest (DOR), I only get to eat 1310 calories, which just isn't a lot of food.

2)  My workouts have become all about the calorie burn.

...

I want working out to be FUN again!  I don't want to worry about the calories burned during my workouts, and I absolutely was loving being an intuitive exerciser, even if I wasn't ready to be an intuitive eater yet.

She loves exercise!!! (or is getting paid)

So how can I get back to a more intuitive and enjoyable approach to exercise?

That's my goal for this week.  I'm going to re-learn to LOVE EXERCISE, and to stop worrying so much about the calories burned.

Today's plan-  run/walk on the treadmill!  This is a workout that I always love, so I'm not worried about it.  I'm going to go for 40 minutes and burn approximately 359 calories.  Since joining MFP, I've become almost obsessed with doing 60 minutes of cardio a day, to earn anywhere from 500-700 exercise calories that I then EAT!  So my 40 minutes goal for today is actually a step towards learning to love exercise again.

About those DORs, I'm planning to have one on Wednesday.  I am going to try to stick to more whole foods than processed things, as suggested by many of my readers, to see if that helps me to feel less deprived on 1300 calories.  I sure hope so!

Tomorrow I will do Tasty Tuesday, and hopefully Wednesday I'll do a much healthier and more whole foods edition of "my 1300 calorie day" for you guys.

Do you enjoy exercise?  What is your favorite type to do?

I'm on the fence. I do LOVE eating my extra calories, for sure, but I think I do really enjoy exercising, too. Although I kind of through a tantrum if I can't wear my HRM when I'm running to know exactly how many calories I can eat, so that might not be a good thing. But for now, it works.

Since I am also counting calories with MFP, I know what you mean. I am also trying to keep exercising fun and not just about the calorie burn. I love eating my exercise calories, but don't want to become someone who exercises only for the calorie burn and to eat them. Going to try less processed foods on my DOR later on this week too, good idea.

I just assume all calorie counting is pure estimation. If you're going by what the machines say it's totally a guess anyway. I can "trick" the machines because I know what makes them say I burned more, but I am postitive I burn more calories running than on the elliptical regardless of what the readout says.
Same goes for food. It is all estimation. A few hundred calories is well within the margin of error.
My point is that there's no reason to get all hung up on the details. I don't always eat all my exercise calories. And on some days, I eat more than "allowed." So don't worry- enjoy exercise, enjoy food, and follow your plan with some wiggle room.

You get 110 calories more than me! So not fair! :P

The only exercise I find fun is the dancy stuff. I do this series of workouts called Yoga Booty Ballet. It's totally corny, but I love the dance and yoga aspects of it.

I'm not looking for calorie burn. I'm just looking for anything that makes me look forward to getting some exercise everyday.

Thanks to you and a few others I have joined the MFP team! Starting Saturday I started to count calories to see if I could get past my 163-165 hump. I want to get into the 150's so badly.

Anyways - Depending on the day I'm between 165-163 do I entered 165 as my weight and put 150 as my goal weight. It says I'm allowed 1280 calories a day. That is next to nothing! Now I'm all about the calorie burn but I also love to exercise. And if I go over I don't feel too bad about it as long as its with something healthy like fruit, yogurt, string cheese, etc. I think I'll give this a try for a few weeks and see how it goes.

I have a love/hate relationship with exercise -- and I mean that literally -- no middle ground -- I either love it or hate it. And that goes for any activity. I swear its all about my mood... because when I am not feeling it; even the most fun activity won't impress me.

I am dying to try Zumba -- I hear its so much fun!!!

the more I exercise, the more I enjoy it!

I miss a yoga/tai chi/pilates fusion class I took at the Y I used to live by.

I'm learning to enjoy jogging!
